However your day's going so far, it's about to get a bit better - because I may have just discovered the coolest history programme ever. Deadliest Warrior is a US TV show that pits two legendary fighters against each other in hypothetical duals to the death. Samurai vs Viking... Japanese Yakuza vs. Sicilian Mafia... Ninja vs. Spartan... even Taliban vs IRA (I kid you not!).
Each episode explores the history and cultures of the warriors whilst a team of modern fighters and experts test their weapons on ballistic gel dummies that accurately simulate human flesh and bone. The data collected from these tests is then fed into a commercial game engine that simulates a thousand battles between the two sides, with the result dramatised in a gruesome fight to the death.
Part pub argument settler, part historical re-enactment, part fantasy ultimate fighting championship and part morbid celebration of lethal weaponry, whilst it's not exactly scientific, Deadliest Warrior is bone crunchingly entertaining - and in between impaling dummies and hacking dead pigs in half, you even learn a thing or two about history.
So could a Spartan kill a Ninja? Just watch this video to find out...
